Stand to Reason / Life Training Institute Apologetics Speaker Tour September 2012

Stand to Reason / Life Training Institute
Apologetics Speaker Tour
September 2012

Thinking Matters New Zealand is proud to host these three top US speakers in September and would like to make them available to your church or youth group.
They can speak on any topic relating to the defence of Christianity, the sanctity of human life or any other theological topic which equips Christians to know and defend the essential beliefs of their faith.
These are three dynamic and experienced communicators who engage both the heart and mind, leaving audiences challenged and inspired.
Brett and Jay speak to thousands of adults and students at churches, conferences, and university campuses across the US each year, while Amy writes for the Stand to Reason blog (at str.typepad.com – which has a readership of roughly 32,000 visit per month) and has spoken at churches and women’s retreats.
Each speaker brings different specialities and can contribute in different ways. See over for a list of potential presentation topics.

Available individually or as a group, for daytime or evening presentations, sermons, workshops, women’s ministry groups (Amy) or casual youth-group discussions.

The dates are as follows (there is still some flexibility in these):

  • Auckland: Friday 14th September to Sunday 16th September, and a week later on the morning of Sunday 23rd September.
  • Hamilton/Tauranga/Rotorua: Sunday 16th September to Wednesday 19th September.
  • Palmerston North: Wednesday 19th September to Thursday 20th September.
  • Wellington: Thursday 20th September to Saturday 22nd September.

Possible Speaking Topics

Brett, Jay & Amy Q&A Panel. Our speakers work well as a team for casual conversations and challenging questions on any topics in the area of ethics, values, religion and God.

If you would like to host these speakers in your church, please contact Rodney ASAP at: Rodney@ThinkingMatters.org.nz

NZ Forum on the Family

Our very special guest at this year’s Forum on the Family will be Dr Miriam Grossman. Dr. Grossman’s mission is to highlight the dangers of the anything-goes, condom-based approach to sexual health. With examples from cutting edge research, she proves that sex is a serious matter, and can never be “casual,” especially for girls. Her politically-incorrect books and lectures provide parents with urgently needed ammunition to counter the hazardous messages that bombard young people, some of which come from trusted sources.

William Lane Craig’s Brazil tour

William Lane Craig, a man well endowed with reasoning and debating skills, has just returned from the land of amazing ball skills (photos here).

Craig attended two conferences and had university-level engagements with large audiences (no surprise there). In addition, five of his books are now available for Brazilian readers by way of publisher Vida Nova.

More info about the tour can be found here.

Quick update on the Arnold Fruchtenbaum meeting

Arnold Fruchtenbaum is a Messianic Jewish scholar and expert on the life of the Messiah from a Jewish perspective (MP3s and DVDs are available — scholarly and popular books by that title may be on the way).  Arnold was born in Russia and escaped Hitler before landing in the USA.

Arnold is a Bible encyclopedia — rumor has it he even studies the Bible in the shower.  His scholarship is perhaps best evidenced during the Q and A times following each lecture.  Arnold appears to know the Bible off-by-heart including the ability to cite chapter and verse for almost everything.

Arnold’s lectures are highly structured and methodical, and delivered in an accented monotonic manner.  Notes are provided including lots of whitespace for you to add your own notes on them.  Every lecture section ends by a Rabbi joke.

Arnold Fruchtenbaum

Following the lecture given in the photo above, one questioner asserted that the Jews have a debt owing to the church.  Arnold replied correctly that the actual debt is the other way around.  The church is hugely in debt to the Jews, and part of that debt should be an apology for the disgraceful treatment the Jews have received at the hands of Christians during their diaspora. This disgraceful behavior continues in parts of the anti-Semitic church today.

Biblical Training, Bill Mounce, and certificate courses

New Certificate, CEU Credits, Annual Report, and The Story of Jesus Speaks!

Dear Friends,

Lots of things are happening at BiblicalTraining. Here are the highlights.

NEW CERTIFICATE

Christians in the Marketplace is a 10 hour certificate taught by Dr. Gerry Breshears and Kent Humphreys and is offered by Western Seminary and BiblicalTraining. It addresses the issue of how do business leaders apply biblical principles to their leadership and interaction with others in the marketplace in such a way that Christ is glorified and men and women are born into the Kingdom of God.

CEU CREDITS AT BIBLICALTRAINING

BiblicalTraining has been certified by ACSI so that we can offer versions of the Certificates for Continuing Education Units. Check out our offerings.

THE STORY OF JESUS SPEAKS

This is our translation of the Gospel of John specifically for seekers and new believers. A friend has just recorded the translation so you can listen to the Story as well as read it.

ANNUAL REPORT

You can download a copy of our Annual Report 2010. It will give you a snapshot of where we are, where we are going, and some financial numbers.

For His Glory,
Bill Mounce

P.S. Response to our last newsletter about helping the Chinese house church system was strong. Please pray for wisdom as we put a core curriculum together for them and all bi-vocational pastors around the world. Thanks to all who are helping with the transcriptions. And please, when school starts in a few weeks, remember to start your Amazon purchases at BiblicalTraining.org.

The Reasonable Faith Tour with William Lane Craig

Source: premier.org.uk/craig and H/T to Apologetics315.

In October 2011, William Lane Craig, arguably the world’s leading Christian academic apologist, will once again visit the UK for a series of lectures and debates.

Following his highly successful Reasonable Faith Tour in 2007, Bill will again present the case for the truth of the Christian faith, responding both to Stephen Hawking’s recent book The Grand Design as well as to Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion, which will then have just seen its 5 year publication anniversary.

Richard Dawkins has thus far declined a debate, but the door is open to him defending his book The God Delusion on 25th October 2011 at the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford.

26th October 2011 at 7.30pm Manchester

“Why isn’t there more of this kind of thing being preached from church pulpits? If there were, I’d go more often and I’d stay awake during the sermon!”

– Comment from a self-confessed irregular churchgoer during the 2007 Reasonable Faith Tour.
