Should Homosexuals Be Able to Marry Whom They Love?

From Stand to Reason’s blog here.

Are we really depriving homosexuals the right to marry the person they love? Yes. But there’s nothing unusual about that. Nobody has the right to marry any person they love. Everyone has restrictions.

When you take an honest look at the marriage law, it turns out that there is nothing unfair about it. Homosexuals have the same rights and the same restrictions as heterosexuals. For example, there is no legal right granted to a heterosexual that does not apply in exactly the same way to every homosexual. Both can marry in any state. Both can marry someone of the opposite sex. Both can receive the benefits that come with legal marriage. Heterosexuals and homosexuals are treated alike.

There is also no legal restriction for homosexuals that does not also apply in exactly the same way to every heterosexual. Neither one can marry their sibling. Both are prohibited from marrying someone already married. They can’t marry a child. And neither has the freedom to marry someone of the same sex.

The marriage law applies equally to every person, whether they are homosexual or not. Everyone is treated the same.

Oh yeah, drink in the tolerance with Mark Driscoll

Gotta love this one from Wintery Knight from the Washington Post:

Hate crime: gay activists vandalize Mark Driscoll’s Mars Hill Church

A satellite church affiliated with controversial Seattle pastor Mark Driscoll was vandalized early Tuesday (April 24) and a group calling itself the “Angry Queers” has reportedly taken responsibility.

Stained glass and other windows were broken at the Mars Hill Church, according to a post on the Facebook page of Pastor Tim Smith.

“Neighbors of the church reported seeing several young adults in black masks throwing large rocks into the windows,” a church news release said. “Police stated that a bank in the area was also vandalized in the same way and that they believe the vandalism was planned ahead of time, most likely by an activist group.”

On Tuesday, KPTV FOX 12 reported it had received an email from someone using the name “Angry Queers” and claiming responsibility.

Driscoll should not feel special — he is not the only one the intolerant tolerants are persecuting.

Pure. Demonic. Evil.

Latest from the Dave Coppedge case

Coppedge was an employee with a fine documented record of high-quality job performance. He got along with colleagues and shared political, scientific and religious views only in a modest, unobtrusive way, as anyone ought to have the right to do.

His trouble began when it became known that, among his views, there numbered a belief in the scientific theory of intelligent design. The culture of JPL could not tolerate open trafficking in this idea, however discreetly done. And this — by an implicit policy of intimidation and silence — is how Big Science at places like JPL maintains the pretense of a “consensus” against ID.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali: The Global War on Christians in the Muslim World

From Newsweek Magazine and World News here.

This article was written by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. She is an ex-Muslim, now atheist, and visited New Zealand a couple of years ago. I listened to one interview she did with Kim Hill on Radio New Zealand National’s Saturday Morning.

From the article:

We hear so often about Muslims as victims of abuse in the West and combatants in the Arab Spring’s fight against tyranny. But, in fact, a wholly different kind of war is underway—an unrecognized battle costing thousands of lives. Christians are being killed in the Islamic world because of their religion. It is a rising genocide that ought to provoke global alarm.

But a fair-minded assessment of recent events and trends leads to the conclusion that the scale and severity of Islamophobia pales in comparison with the bloody Christophobia currently coursing through Muslim-majority nations from one end of the globe to the other. The conspiracy of silence surrounding this violent expression of religious intolerance has to stop. Nothing less than the fate of Christianity—and ultimately of all religious minorities—in the Islamic world is at stake.

If you doubt the evil being perpetrated by real Muslims (not the limp-wristed liberal Muslims of the West) then read Ali’s article.

Starbucks Coffee Co. Officially Support Sodomy and Gay “Marriage”

Media Release — 3 February 2012

Right to Life is disappointed that Starbucks are officially supporting sodomy and gay marriage.

Starbucks executive vice President, Karen Holmes in a letter dated 24 January 2012, to United States partners expressed enthusiastic support for homosexual marriage legislation in Washington State. The “important legislation” says Karen Holmes “is core to who we are and what we value as a company.”

Customer Relations at Starbucks stated that “Starbucks is proud to join other leading Northwest employers in support of Washington State legislation recognising marriage equality for same–sex couples. From our very earliest days, Starbucks have strived to create a company culture that put our people first and our company has a lengthy history of leading on and supporting policies that promote equality and inclusion.”

It is disappointing but not surprising that Starbucks wish to re-define marriage and believes that support for sodomy and homosexual marriage is a core value.

The family is at the centre of a culture of life, it is the foundation of a stable society. It is the family that brings forth children, future citizens who are essential for the continuance of society. The promotion of same sex marriage is an attack on the institution of marriage and on society itself. Right to Life supports the human rights of the homosexual members of our community, however there is no human right to homosexual marriage.

The support of Starbucks for homosexual marriage is no surprise, as the company has been putting pro-homosexual messages on its take-away cups since 2006. Starbucks claims in its mission statement to embrace diversity. It promotes gay pride events but refuses to support events celebrating heterosexual marriage.

Pro-family leaders in the United States are now calling for an international boycott of Starbucks.

The Starbucks brand is managed in New Zealand by Restaurant Brands NZ Ltd which has 32 Starbucks Coffee shops in New Zealand.

Those in the community who believe that marriage is exclusively for one man and one woman will be offended by the attack of Starbucks on the family. They are encouraged to boycott Starbucks Coffee shops and to take their business to coffee shops that support the family and who do not support sodomy and homosexual marriage.

Right to Life requests Restaurant Brands to publicly dissociate itself from the support for homosexual marriage expressed by Starbucks USA.

Death Sentence for Pastor in India

From here:

Death Sentence for Pastor in India

TMS Graduate Bruce Alvord (M.Div.’92, Th.M.’98) writes about his recent travel to India where he met Obaid, a pastor who has fled his country because of threats on his life.

We just returned from India, where we met an Afghani pastor living in New Delhi. “Obaid” fled Muslim Afghanistan because of a death sentence against him for his belief in Christ. Since escaping to India, he has had several attempts on his life and believes that he has been followed to New Delhi. Someone almost succeeded in running him over with a car in front of his home, but his neighbors rescued him. [Read more...]

And now the anti Intelligent Design forces are in damage control

California Science Center Issues a Press Release Full of Misleading Claims: A Point-by-Point Response

The California Science Center Foundation (herein “CSC,” as it is essentially a shell organization that is very difficult to distinguish from the California Science Center) has put out a press statement full of inaccurate and misleading information about the settlement in the American Freedom Alliance (AFA) v. CSC lawsuit. E-mail evidence disclosed during the case, as well as a myriad of other facts, directly contradicts CSC’s claims. In particular, is noteworthy that CSC’s statement makes no mention whatsoever of the $110,000 price tag they were willing to pay to settle the case and avoid trial. It seems that major detail is too embarrassing to them to be disclosed, because it implies some kind of culpability on their part.

Below is a point by point commentary and refutation of various claims in the statement issued by the CSC about the lawsuit settlement:

And so it goes on…

In a striking e-mail that shows the CSC fishing for a pretext to give the public to justify the cancellation, CSC VP of Communications Shell Amega passes a command from CSC CEO Jeff Rudolph to fish through the contract to find a reason, a pretext, for canceling the event:

“Jeff just called and is wondering if they violated an agreement — like was this supposed to be a private screening or did they say it was a public screening? If they misrepresented the event, then we can cancel them.”

In case it isn’t clear, the above statement shows that CSC first wanted to cancel AFA’s event, and then sought a reason it could give publicly to explain the cancellation. In other words, CSC wanted to cancel the contract before it knew whether the contract had been violated. Shell Amega’s own e-mail contradicts her claims in the statement that AFA’s alleged breach triggered the cancellation. In another telling e-mail, Sion then jubilantly announces the manufacture of plausible deniability: “They did receive an agreement w/the following language — hope this covers us well!”

After witnessing the anger of other LA area scientists and academics over CSC’s allowing a group to rent its IMAX to show a pro-ID film, CSC curator Ken Phillips then warned his CSC colleagues against granting a forum to proponents of ID:

“I personally have a real problem with anything that elevates the concept of intelligent design to a level that makes it appear as though it should be considered equally alongside Darwinian theory as a possible alternative to natural selection. In other words, I see us getting royally played by the Center for Science and Culture resulting in long term damage to our credibility and judgment for a very long time.”

Curator Phillips is welcome to disagree with ID, but here he exemplifies a culture of intolerance against ID within the California Science Center.

Wow.  So we witness again the intolerance of the Darwinian priesthood.  In a mere 500 years, we have replaced one diabolical priesthood with another diabolical priesthood.  Viva the ID revolution. [Read more...]

Another big win this week for Intelligent Design

From Casey Luskin here: www.evolutionnews.org/2011/08/stampede_the_california_scienc050221.html

Stampede! What the California Science Center Scandal Reveals about Our Scientific Culture

You’ve heard a lot in this space the past few days about the viewpoint-discrimination lawsuit settled by the California Science Center for $110,000. That’s money the CSC found it advisable to pay out to the American Freedom Alliance in order to avoid having to go to court and argue the case in public, with all that would have entailed by way of exposing a trail of incriminating emails by CSC staffers and scientists around the Los Angeles area.

Lead by Casey Luskin, ENV writers have already very clearly spelled out the evidence of duplicity and intolerance on the part of the California Science Center, the panicky attempt to squelch the airing of a viewpoint favorable to intelligent design and the subsequent cover-up. Now that there’s a little bit of a breather following the widespread reporting of the settlement, I’d like to suggest why the whole thing matters so much.

And some more:

In episode after episode in the world of science, where mild, scattered expressions of Darwin-doubting were heard, we’ve observed this panicked mentality immediately set in. Staff at the CSC and even scholars at neighboring institutions were driven into a mass anxiety attack. They feared for their reputations and their livelihoods, but there was also something almost existential about the delirium that overtook normally sober, thoughtful men and women.

In terror, our scientific buffaloes have trampled individuals and groups that merely wanted to encourage debate about a scientific issue of profound scholarly, cultural and philosophical importance. What’s changed just in the past year is that, gratifyingly, we’ve seen several instances where the trampled party fought back and won vindication through the legal process. That’s what happened in AFA v. CSC.

Look, money talks. Though Richard Sternberg at the Smithsonian Institution’s American Museum of Natural History had his own account of persecution confirmed by no less than the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, he received no monetary compensation. By contrast, when the CSC reluctantly coughed up $110,000 to the American Freedom Alliance, it was an implicit admission that the CSC had done an injustice. After all, the CSC is a government entity, and government cannot discriminate against viewpoints. In fact, it’s been striking how many of the documented cases of anti-ID discrimination have taken place at state-run educational and scientific institutions.

Nero in Beijing — The Communist Party Declares War on Christians

The news out of China grows worse as reports of the arrest, detention, harassment, and beatings of Christians come from across China. The most publicized case thus far is the repeated oppression against a Beijing congregation that has led to numerous arrests and a crackdown within China’s capital.

Pakistan’s Sole Christian Minister Assassinated

VOM sources in Pakistan are reporting that Pakistan’s Minister of Minority Affairs, Shahbaz Bhatti, was assassinated March 2 while on his way to work in Islamabad by gunmen who riddled his car with bullets. It was not clear why Bhatti, a member of the ruling Pakistani People’s Party, did not have bodyguards with him. This is the latest attack on a high-profile Pakistani figure who had urged reforming harsh blasphemy laws that impose the death penalty for insulting Islam.

Private Pakistani TV channels showed pamphlets at the scene of the killing that were attributed to the Pakistani Taliban warning of the same fate for anyone opposing the blasphemy laws.

Thank the Lord for the life of Shahbaz Bhatti and his attempts to change Pakistan’s blasphemy laws. Pray the Lord will bring comfort to his family in their time of sorrow. Pray the Lord will not allow Pakistani believers to be discouraged, but to be emboldened in their faith, putting their trust in the everlasting God.
